“It's remarkable how quickly a good and favourable wind can sweep away the maddening frustrations of shore living”

Ernest K. Gann
“I wanted freedom, open air and adventure. I found it on the sea”

Laser sailing is great fun! Lasers are the most widely used and popular class of dinghy sailing craft today and there are a wide variety of options available to you if you want to learn to sail.
The Laser Site provides masses of detail about these versatile craft. There are lots of used Lasers available at good prices. Explore!
Sailing a small boat is great fun. It can be exciting too! How do you start if you have never sailed before? Well, SSC run an annual Try Sailing Day in June when people are encouraged to come along and try out a number of different types of sailing boats. It’s a good way to get a feel to what it is like out on the water and what type of boat you would like to sail.
Can't wait that long? Come along and talk to one of the Club Officers – there is a duty officer every Sunday during the sailing season and normally a number of others would be in the Club too. They can give advice how to get more involved. They may know of people in the Club who are looking for crew to sail with them - which is a great way to learn!

For the kids, SSC Cadets are the way to learn. The Cadet section is run by parents and children are encouraged to learn to sail, starting in tiny boats attached to the shore by a rope and gradually working up their skills and confidence. Interested? Talk to us.

If you're young - think Cadets! SSC Cadet Class is a great way to start to learn the skills and thrills of dinghy racing! Ask for details.
Sailing Essentials. Safety is our first concern, so a buoyancy jacket is an essential purchase. Then add a wet suit plus sailing boots and gloves.
A pair of sunglasses is another good thought.
Look at Mailspeed's site for a bit more information.
